Essentially an original series novel, but features several flashbacks to the Enterprise's Pike days. Note that Scotty's recounting of a Captain Pike adventure seems to imply he was not aboard at the time (2255).
The Rift (TOS #57) Written by: Peter David Date of Publication: November 1991 Time Period ("First Contact"): 2254 (immediately after "The Cage" [TOS]) Time Period ("Second Contact"): 2287 (after Star Trek V: The Final Frontier) Significance: Showed the future of José Tyler. Not an all-Pike book, the second part takes is a follow-up to Part I.

The Captain's Table (Book 6 of 6) Date of Publication: September 1998 Time Period (Story): 2254 (not long after "The Cage" [TOS]) Time Period (Frame): Stardate 1626.8, 2266 (just before Pike's accident) Significance: Established Communications Officer Dabisch and "Burnie" Burnstein. Related the fate of Yeoman Colt. Told in first person point-of-view by Pike in 2266. The first Pike story of the "modern" Trek era.

Final Frontier (TOS) Written by: Diane Carey Date of Publication: January 1988 Time Period (Epilogue): 2250 (during the Enterprise's first refit) Significance: Includes the speech April gives when turning the ship over to Pike.
Miniseries: Starfleet Academy (Book 1 of 3) Written by: Brad & Barbara Strickland Date of Publication: July 1996 Time Period: 2246 (during the Captain April years) Significance: Showed Christopher Pike as the first officer of the Enterprise. This concept was initially hard to reconcile with "Though Hell Should Bar the Way" (TOS EL), Best Destiny (TOS), and Vulcan's Glory (TOS #44). Note that though Spock meets Commander Pike here, they do not seem to know each other in Vulcan's Glory.
